Melissa is passionate about supporting and empowering individuals with communication difficulties and impairments to become confident speakers. Melissa is currently a third-year student, studying a master’s degree of Speech Pathology, at La Trobe University. Melissa enjoys all areas of speech pathology but has developed special interests in supporting early language development, social skills, and literacy.
Through the duration of her course, Melissa has developed a strong interest in the paediatric field and is particularly drawn to autism spectrum disorders and speech sound disorders. Since early 2021, Melissa has been working alongside occupational therapists and speech pathologists as a therapy assistant at First Choice Allied Health. Melissa also has experience in running social skills groups and delivering therapy to clients during home-visits.
As of August 2021, Melissa has completed her placement at the Footscray Hospital where she worked with adults in the acute setting, assessing their swallowing and communication impairments. Melissa has another part-time job where she works as a retail assistant at Cotton On Kids. Outside of her studies and work, Melissa enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
